Racing Toward Death

Katsuro drifts through his nights as a host with nothing much to show for it until he meets Shiki Machiyuki, a divorced woman in her thirties who has clearly given up on herself. Their relationship goes somewhere he doesn't expect: she is Saison, a depressive anime writer with a following most creators would kill for, and he finds himself pulled into the work she can barely stand to keep doing.

What follows is less a love story than two damaged people trying to make something together while everything around them argues they shouldn't. They fight, they collaborate, they keep circling back to the idea of dying, and the industry they're both chasing never gets any kinder to either of them.

It plays as a voiced visual novel with branching endings, so the choices made across their relationship and their work decide which version of this ends in ruin and which one doesn't. The tone stays bleak throughout, with the horror and violence tags earning their place rather than sitting there for decoration, and the romance never really shakes off the dread underneath it.
