FungusDen: Secret Of Sporeville

Sporeville's mine tunnels have gone bad, so the village calls in a holy knight, Fiona Myrkgard, to find out what's contaminating them and put it down. The village chief has an oddly large head, which is not the kind of detail a story includes by accident.

Fiona's investigation is really an excuse to send her through infested tunnels where the local fungus and its tentacled tenants have other plans for a lone knight than letting her finish the job cleanly.

You move Fiona through side-scrolling platformer stages, fighting monsters with RPG-style combat and some character creation options, while the sandbox structure lets you poke around Sporeville and its mines instead of following one straight corridor. Losing fights goes about how you'd expect from the tags, and the game doesn't pretend otherwise.
