About

Minerva fights her way through the first chapter of a handcrafted Metroidvania, and losing to the wrong enemy is as much a part of the plan as winning. The game doesn't dress up its stakes: beat the boss or become one of seven bad ends.

The setting splits the universe into three realms: the upper domain of Ea, the mortal world between them, and the Nether Regions below. Deities can only touch the mortal realm through chosen Anchors, and that old balance is breaking down. Culiebra, goddess of corruption, has grown strong enough on mortal sin to try tearing the barriers between worlds down entirely, and Minerva is caught in the middle of it.

Exploration is side-scrolling and interconnected, with combat built around mixing skills and equipment rather than picking one fixed build. This demo covers the first biome and its enemies, ending in a boss fight, with seven distinct bad ends and their own CGs along the way. An equipment menu overhaul now shows exact stat changes from gear and enchantments, a small but welcome fix while the next chapter is being built. The finished game is planned to run to eight chapters, each with its own biome, enemies, and bad ends to find.

Changelog

v0.1.2
  • Summary
  • We are now hard at work on Chapter 2, but that doesn't mean we won't still be squashing bugs and improving the overall experience. This small update brings some nice new quality of life features and things players have been asking for. Below is the full list of changes.
  • Content Updates
  • Equipment menu updated to display the current stat modifiers of equipment and enchantments
  • Camera tracking improved, and manual camera adjustment added (hold up or down to pan the camera)
  • Updated the weapon attack display to show the weapon's base damage to hopefully make the numbers more intuitive
  • Catnip returns! Catnip now appears in the forest (even after the Alraune is defeated). He will leave again in v0.2.0 to his intended location, but now players won't be locked out of his sticker & items after beating the boss.
  • Bug Fixes
  • Fixed an animation bug when back dashing against a wall
  • Fixed an animation bug where the Hellhound's gill light layer wouldn't stay properly synced to the animation
v0.1.1
  • Summary
  • The demo has been out for two weeks now and the overall feedback has been fantastic! Thank you all so much for your support thus far, it means the world to us! This patch is mainly targeted at fixing bugs discovered after the initial launch as well as smoothing out the player experience here and there. This will provide a solid foundation as we build Chapter 2!
  • Content Updates
  • Upgraded engine runtime to 2026LTS (Hopefully this will fix the input lag issue present on certain AMD graphics cards)
  • Made the Bernard sticker easier to get and added the option to retry his event (talk to him and Fia in the Tavern)
  • Extended the button remap/rebind feature to include all game inputs (movement keys and menu keys) on both keyboard and controller
  • Increased the speed of the aerial attack for heavy weapons to make it easier to use close to the ground
  • Temporary bridge art in the caves replaced with final artwork
  • Added a Vsync option to the main menu settings (may also help those experiencing the input lag bug with AMD cards)
  • Added a new slide tutorial in the forest to improve player onboarding
  • Corruption reduction removed from the Casual difficulty
  • Updated many pieces of dialog and added new expressions for Bernard during dialog
  • Added an NPC directing players up the stairs to the church to make it more obvious that they are traversable
  • Added the ability to skip dialog outside of cutscenes (mapped to Y on controller and X on keyboard by default)
  • Updated the art for the levers in the platforming puzzle in the Shine of the Matriarch
  • Added button prompts to the sell window
  • Item descriptions updated to more accurately describe their effects
  • Added a tutorial bulletin board to the gallery that describes how to unlock scenes
  • Scenes now unlock for free in the gallery when you "bad end" naturally
  • New achievements added to the Steam build of the game
  • Vines added to the caves to block off the hive nest until players are more well equipped to handle the encounter
  • Added markers on the map showing the locations of the mini save checkpoints (major fast travel save points were already shown in red)
  • Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a bug in the spell menu UI that caused the game to crash
  • Fixed bug causing the Frillodon to deal less corruption than expected and not award the cherry sticker
  • Fixed a bug where the map position was not updating in the dead version of the forest
  • Fixed a bug where the sword animation played incorrectly after turning during crouch
  • Fixed a bug where the Frillodon could be duplicated if his scene was skipped at the right time

  • Fixed a bug preventing the tavern music from stopping when quitting to the main menu
  • Fixed a bug where the game would crash upon dying to the hive swarm
  • Addendum
  • Welp immediately after release a critical bug was found and fixed, so the build has been updated. You know you have the correct version if the title screen says "Public Alpha Demo 1.1b"
