Elves have no legal standing here, and Marie doesn't get to say no. Anyone who talks to her can escalate into a demand, and the game tracks how much of that she absorbs before things get ugly.

The setup is simple: a world stacked against her, and no real refusal mechanism built into it. What plays out follows from that imbalance rather than from anything she chooses.

You move Marie through her days and fights, but the real system running underneath is exposure. Turn-based combat gives way to encounters that aren't really about winning, and the tone stays grim rather than played for laughs.
