We Need Money

A father's ultimatum yanks the protagonist out of city nightlife and drops him in a half-empty university town where the only affordable room comes with a roommate named Rally and a rent bill he can't dodge. The place is quiet on the surface, but the arrangement he strikes to keep a roof over his head is the first domino in a town that turns out to be anything but boring.

Money is the excuse that gets him through the door, and everything else follows from there: classmates, neighbors, and a roommate whose motives aren't purely financial start pulling him into arrangements that have nothing to do with tuition. The university setting stays in the background while the actual plot runs on debts, favors, and people who expect something in return for what they're offering.

Progress comes through reading and choosing how to handle the people orbiting Rally's apartment and the campus around it, with new scenes and character routes added as the story continues rather than delivered all at once.
