People are vanishing from Riverwood, and Ciri gets sent in to find out why, monster problem included. She starts the game with no interest in selling herself, but that's a starting condition, not a fixed one.

The actual plot is thin: a disappearance, a monster, a village that needs sorting out. Everything past that opening is up to how you play her.

You choose the direction from there, working jobs and hunting werewolves and ghouls for coin, or steering her into the brothel work instead, including the one that's grown out in Riverwood and picked up added scenes and clients over updates. Novigrad adds its own thread later on, with a notice board handing out small side jobs once you go looking for them. Nothing forces the outcome; Ciri ends up wherever you decide to take her.
