About
Nine lives sounds like a lot of cushion, but Yoki still has to work for every one of them, wandering Tail Valley picking through pixel-art dangers that mostly want to grab her.
A cat with nine lives sets off through the mysterious corners of Tail Valley, and every level in that valley seems built to test how many of those lives she can keep.
The actual loop is scavenger hunt first, consequence second: scour each level for scattered pink lily flowers, gather enough of them, then bring the haul to a fox-statue altar to close the level out. The overview is upfront that the bigger payoff, turning flower counts into real character progression, isn't in yet, so for now the offering mostly just marks the level done. Combat and the valley's less friendly wildlife fill the space between flower patches, and that's where the trouble Yoki's lives are apparently meant to absorb comes from.
Changelog
- What's New?
- Sounds
- We've added an incredible number of sounds for virtually every action! To achieve this, we created and refined special media systems to ensure fast and accurate sound playback. And to conserve memory and maintain performance, we carefully selected the track compression settings.
- Each sound is three-dimensional, meaning it follows spatial positioning logic and sound attenuation logic based on the distance from the source.
- A special system for sound attenuation based on the thickness of obstacles in its path has been implemented! WhireFox created a special algorithm that not only checks for obstacles between each sound source and the player but also verifies the thickness of the obstacle itself, with protection against false positives—all while maintaining optimal performance.
- In every cave, a unique sound effect awaits you, creating the sensation of being in a real cave. To achieve this, special sound filters were configured and triggers were set up.
- Another immersive feature is the sound of the player’s footsteps on different surfaces. The logic dynamically determines the surface type and adjusts the walking sound accordingly: on snow, stone, ice, and wood.
- We also didn’t forget about the interface sounds. In fact, specific sounds were selected for some of its elements.
- Level Walkthrough
- Now that you’ve collected all the black lilies on the island, you can perform a special ritual at the Tree of Life to exchange the flowers for orbs. During the ritual, Yoki calls upon the ancient gods of this world to lift the souls trapped within the lilies to the heavens, and in return, receive an extract of wishes in the form of pink orbs. In the process, the Tree of Life receives immense energy to once again nourish its massive roots, from which the totem at the edge of the island is carved.
- By interacting with the mysterious totem at this stage, you can complete the first level and subsequently teleport to other islands. For a more convenient and interactive experience, the in-game UI has been configured to support both keyboard/gamepad controls and touch-based controls (mouse clicks and taps).
- And, of course, brand-new animations and sound effects have been created and added for all these new actions!
- Other
- A new fun feature is that when Yoki falls into an abyss, she will teleport back with a new magical animation, while consuming her life force. If Yoki is low on health or falls into the abyss while stunned, she will not be able to teleport back.
- We’ve decided to make the “Easy” mode easier and the “Hard” mode more challenging by adjusting the amount of life energy points awarded for defeating mobs and changing the damage dealt by spikes.
- When a mob grabs Yoki, a spam bar appears with a position unique to that mob.
