A journalism student chasing a routine story on campus rumors stumbles into a blackmail ring, one where the students being investigated turn out to be the victims. Four women end up drawn into the investigation with him, and the digging goes places that have nothing to do with journalism.

The blackmail plot is the spine here: someone is using students' secrets against them, and untangling who and why pushes the protagonist closer to each of the four women helping him. What starts as evidence-gathering turns into something more personal fairly fast.
